How to make game plan adjustments for specific opponents

In the hyper-competitive world of high school football, coaches need to try to gain an advantage any way possible.

But the opportunity to gain an edge needs to be weighed against the cost. Will inserting a new wrinkle into your scheme disrupt your usual game plan and take away practice time from your usual plays?

In this week’s #txhsfbchat, high school coaches discussed how to change things up during the week, to better confront Friday’s particular opponent.

The consensus among the coaches seems to be that it’s easier to add a new wrinkle to an old play than insert a new play entirely. And if the new wrinkle isn’t working smoothly by the end of Wednesday’s practice, it’s better to scrap it than attempt it in the game.
