Dylan Spinks, a ninth-grader at North Paulding (Dallas, Ga.), has moved three different times during his young life.
The one constant factor for him has been football.
Suiting up on the gridiron with teammates has allowed him to forge new relationships and find comfort in new surroundings.
"Football is family," Spinks said. "On the field, you very quickly learn the value of cooperation, accountability and teamwork, which can carry over to your off-field life."
Spinks demonstrated those traits this summer at the U.S. National Team Development Games, earning him the Values Captain award.
The USA Football Values Captains program highlights players who exemplify the positive qualities that football teaches and fosters.
Out of all the lessons that football teaches, being coachable is what stands out most to the 5-foot-7 signal-caller.
"You have to be coachable," Spinks said. "You may have talent, but you do not know it all. Your success or lack of success is directly related to your willingness to accept coaching."
Spinks will bring his coachable outlook to his sophomore season at North Paulding next fall, hoping to build on the team’s 7-4 record this season.
