The rub:

Interacting with parents is more of an art form than a science, but parental and community support is a critical pillar to a successful high school football program.

Bob Sphire has experience navigating the landscape of both public and non-public schools, first as head coach at Lexington Catholic (Ky.) and later at North Gwinnett, where he currently coaches.

At North Gwinnett, Sphire leans heavily on lead booster club Ken Manning, and the two have helped North Gwinnett flourish both on and off the field.

North Gwinnett has its own regularly updated football website on which it sells game tickets and spirit wear and runs ads sponsored by local businesses. It also hosts a summer passing tournament that provides the program with another revenue opportunity.

The success North Gwinnett enjoys in the community is mirrored by that which it experiences on the field. Twice during Sphire’s tenure North Gwinnett has reached the state finals. It’s also produced a bevy of talented players at the next level, including newly minted national champion Mitch Hyatt, a Clemson offensive lineman.

For coaches looking to develop in the area of program management, this session is one not to miss at the 2017 USA Football National Conference at Pro Bowl.
