Sixty-four teams competed, but only four reigned supreme.
Last weekend in Orlando, Fla., the Play Sports Hawaii Rams (9-10 coed), Redzone Sports Vikings (11-12 coed), Arlington Titans (13-14 girls) and Virginia Xtreme Redskins (13-14 boys) were crowned NFL FLAG Champions in their respective age groups.
Most of the teams in attendance earned their spot by winning an NFL FLAG regional tournament. However, each NFL team received the opportunity to nominate one local program in the boys’ 13-14 age group to attend the championships.
In addition to all the action on the field, the players were treated to a motivational talk by former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis at the start of the weekend.
Also, on Saturday night the athletes participated in a “Media Night” event, in which they were in the spotlight. The players were interviewed and also given the chance to walk down the red carpet.
The championships spanned three days as part of Pro Bowl Week 2017, concluding at the Pro Bowl Sunday night. The first half of the championship game for the boys’ 13-14 age group took place prior to kickoff, with the second half as halftime entertainment.
The Virginia Xtreme Redskins, who were 6-0 in regional play, defeated the Ryan Football Dolphins (Miami) 20-6 to clinch their second title in three years.
Will Paige accounted for a touchdown and two-point conversion for the Redskins, while Bronson Sorrell and Caleb Coombs both put six points on the board.
Brashard Smith scored the Dolphins’ lone touchdown of the night.
