With the season long over and National Signing Day in the rearview mirror, coaches may find themselves with a luxury that seemed unthinkable just months ago: time for a little leisure reading.

There’s no shortage of excellent books that touch all aspects of the coaching profession, and recently, The Scouting Academy compiled a detailed list of notable books that coaches may want to consider picking up when they have a few minutes to spare.

The list includes several popular classics, including:

  • “Education of a Coach” –David Habersham’s deep-dive on Patriots head coach Bill Belichick
  • “Above the Line: Lessons in Leadership and Life from a Championship Season” –Urban Meyer’s book exploring his approach to leadership and team-building
  • ”The Score Takes Care of Itself: My Philosophy of Leadership” –Bill Walsh’s take on how focusing on culture and process can lead to success on the scoreboard
  • “Wins, Losses, and Lessons: An Autobiography” –Lou Holtz’s exploration of his own coaching journey and the life lessons and wisdom he gained along the way.

There are a number of other intriguing titles on the list ranging from a detailed look at modern Xs and Os (“The Essential Smart Football”—Chris Brown) to an inside peek into the hyper-competitive world of college football recruiting (“Meat Market: Inside the Smash-Mouth World of College Football Recruiting”—Bruce Feldman).

Many of these titles appear on this FootballScoop breakdown of recommended books for football coaches.

The bottom line is successful coaches never stop learning, and that extends to their libraries.
