Son of Notre Dame Head basketball coach Mike Brey begins high school football coaching career

Kyle Brey, son of Mike Brey, long-time head basketball coach at Notre Dame, is following in his father’s footsteps as a head coach.

However, the younger Brey’s new position will not be in the sport his father has coached for so long. It will be in football.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Kyle has been hired as the head football coach at Ardrey Kell High School (Charlotte, N.C.).

This opportunity comes as no surprise to those who know of Kyle’s experience in football.

Kyle played college football at Buffalo before working on a number of college staffs. His most notable experience came at Ohio State under Urban Meyer.

At Ohio State, he was tasked with handling quality control for the offense and worked alongside offensive coordinator Ed Warinner.

He also spent time on staff at Kansas, Nebraska and Youngstown State.

Most recently, Kyle was working for the same university as his father. He handled event management for Notre Dame as well as being the Olympic facility program director.

He inherits a program in Ardrey Kell that went 13-12 in the past two seasons and has had three previous head coaches since its opening in 2006.

Brian Knaud, athletic director at Ardrey Kell, believes that Kyle is a great fit for the school’s culture, as he impressed during every step of the interview process.

Kyle Brey will obviously garner high expectations with his last name, but with his bounty of experience, he will be well suited to live up to those lofty goals.
