Speed was the story at the 2017 NFL Combine, as Washington wide receiver John Ross set an event record with a time of 4.22 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Near the top of the list of the Combine’s fastest athletes was Central Florida defensive back Shaquill Griffin. The U.S. National Team alum ran a blistering 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, one of seven participants to crack the mark of 4.40 seconds.
It was an all-around strong performance for Griffin, who finished tied for third among defensive backs with a long jump of 132 inches. The 6-foot-1 cornerback also posted a vertical jump of 38.5 inches.
Griffin’s strong performance—especially in the 40-yard dash—is something he expected to deliver heading into the event.
“My 40 is gonna open some eyes. I feel like I’m gonna surprise a lot of people,” Griffin told Patriots.com over the weekend. “They know my size, length and character. They know I can play.”
The impressive testing numbers follow a senior season in which Griffin made four interceptions and recorded 15 pass breakups.
Griffin and twin brother Shaquem teamed up on the U.S. Under-19 National Team for International Bowl IV in 2013. See more in the video below:
