From the football field to the medical field, Myron Rolle has always been a standout.
The former defensive back and Rhodes Scholar is set to begin neurosurgery residency at Harvard Medical School, Rolle announced on Friday.
Friday was “Match Day”, where soon-to-be-doctors learn their placement for residency.
Becoming a doctor has been a lifelong dream for Rolle. The No. 1-ranked recruit as a defensive back for The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.), Rolle continued his education at Florida State, where he played football for three seasons before graduating early. He later returned to Florida State to attend medical school.
Rolle has spoken in the past about how lessons he learned on the football field transferred to his life off the gridiron—especially in the classroom.
“Preparation, discipline, teamwork, communication, overcoming adversity, strategizing, mental toughness, all these different things that I practiced daily to be an outstanding athlete, I was able to translate those skills into my life as a student and it made me a better academic,” Rolle said in a 2014 interview.
“So I think football helped buttress [academics] and I certainly appreciated being a student-athlete from an early age.”
