6-foot-4, 330-pound offensive lineman Kardell Thomas runs 4x100 meter relay

How is LSU commit Kardell Thomas getting ready for the football season this fall?

By hitting the track this spring.

The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Thomas has the perfect build to play on the offensive line, but it’s his speed that is setting him apart from his competitors.

The Southern Lab (Baton Rouge, La.) sophomore represented his school in a sprint event – the 4x100 meter relay. Thomas ran the anchor and, while he wasn’t the fastest in his event, he certainly wasn’t the slowest, displaying impressive speed, especially for his size.

“A lot of people didn’t think I was fast,” Thomas told 247Sports. “Big-man speed is very underrated. I still did good. I feel like if I had my shoes on I would have run away faster than that.”

Thomas verbally committed to LSU last year, but he’ll suit up – with the right footwear – for the Tigers after graduation in 2019.

His performance on the track is a reminder to all football players big or small that whether it’s throwing the shotput and discus or carrying the baton in a relay race, participating in the spring track season is something worth considering.
