2015 Team Mom of the Year grand prize winner Dana Ferguson continues helpful ways with high school team

New year. New team. Same responsibilities.

That’s been the story of Dana Ferguson’s 2016 season. It’s business as usual for USA Football’s 2015 Team Mom of the Year grand prize winner.

Ferguson took home the honors after her diligent service to the McHenry Junior Warriors football program (McHenry, Ill.). She did everything from sell raffle tickets and organize volunteers to planning team events and organizing car pools.

This fall, Ferguson’s duties haven’t changed much. What has changed, however, is her team.

Ferguson’s son moved to high school this year and she wasn’t expecting to take such a hands-on role with the high school football team given her full-time job and other commitments.

However, as the season began and needs became clear, Ferguson once again stepped in to lend her time and effort.

“I did not plan on being a team mom this year,” Ferguson said. “High school football is so different, and I didn’t feel like I had a clue what I was doing. However, I was welcomed onto the McHenry High School Football Committee with open arms.”

Ferguson helps the team with organization, picture taking, car pool scheduling, party coordinating, Gatorade bottle delivery and, perhaps most important of all, sideline cheering.

Though she’s matriculated to the high school ranks, the contributions that Ferguson made to the McHenry Junior Warriors program will not soon be forgotten.

In addition to her many hours of service, the $5,000 grant she won for the program helped the team buy a brand new set of shoulder pads for the program’s larger players.

“This year, I got a text and picture from one of the heavy weight kids, saying thank you for the awesome new shoulder pads. It definitely felt good,” Ferguson said.

The search for the 2016 Team Mom of the Year presented by Squad Locker is under way. One hundred team moms will receive Team Mom Pack, which contains various supplies that come in handy on game day. One grand prize winner will receive a $5,000 equipment grant and an AED, courtesy of Riddell and Physio Control.
