Winning On and Off the Field: USA Football, Positive Coaching Alliance release new course devoted to coach communication

Tom Herman, whose white-hot recent coaching career can inspire us all, is one of several authorities on coaching and communication who appear in Positive Coaching: Communication, the new online course co-developed by USA Football and Positive Coaching Alliance.

This video of Herman explaining the value of opposing coaches communicating with each other just hints at the course’s wealth of information and inspiration.

While there is a long history of coaches “firing up” players with hatred for their opponents (think Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes), that approach lessens the likelihood of winning on or off the field.

On the field, players and coaches who focus on hate cannot focus on execution. Off the field, well, let’s just say our world does not need any more hate.

Herman and some of the other top football figures featured in the course – Pat Fitzgerald, Oliver Luck, Steve Mariucci and Mark Murphy – provide many tips and tools pertaining to helping coaches improve their communications with their fellow coaches, officials, players and their parents.

The more coaches who take this course, the better their players will perform – on the field and off – and the greater our game will grow. Whether it's a coach at your side or one wearing the opposing squad's colors on the opposite sideline, all football coaches are on the same team when it comes to advancing the sport.
