As the saying goes, football is family, and that’s especially evident at the USA Football Protection Tour.

Sponsored by Riddell and AIG, the USA Football Protection Tour is a health and safety program that engages and educates youth football players, their parents, coaches and commissioners.

In other words, many key members of the proverbial gridiron family.

The 2017 USA Football Protection Tour is set to kick off next month in Denver at the practice facility for the Denver Broncos.

There, participants will learn about proper helmet and equipment fitting, USA Football’s Tackle Progression Model and the recognition of concussion symptoms and next steps.

Players in attendance will also get an opportunity to take the field, interact with NFL team players, cheerleaders and the mascot while learning the basic principles of proper tackling.

Parents will be able to work with a Riddell representative to have their child’s helmet properly sized and fitted.

In total, there will be seven Protection Tour stops around the country this summer in partnership with different NFL teams:

  • July 17: Broncos (team practice facility)
  • July 18 : 49ers (team practice facility)
  • July 29: Chiefs  (team practice facility)
  • Aug. 4  Buffalo (New Era Field)
  • Aug. 6 Steelers (Heinz Field)
  • Aug. 26 Bengals (Paul Brown Stadium)

At the stops in Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, participants will also be given the chance to attend their NFL teams’ night practice following the Protection Tour.

At the USA Football Protection Tour, there’s something for everyone.

“Don’t miss out when it comes to your community,” said Peter Schwartz, a parent who attended the Protection Tour last year. “It’s a great time for the whole family.”
