Indy youth football is taking a stand to end violence

There’s a special tournament taking place in the Indianapolis area this weekend.

Youth football players are gathering from all over the city to compete for a cause: to end violence.

The M.G. Dad’s Club Youth Football League is conducting their second annual Stop the Violence tournament.

The idea for the tournament began when one of their players, Denadre Knox, was shot in the back of the head by a stray bullet in February 2014. He survived, but became a quadriplegic at the age of 13.

This year’s tournament will honor a former Warren Central High School player, Dijon Anderson. He was shot in May and passed away. He had signed to play football at Southern Illinois University in this fall.

The president of the M.G. Dad’s Club Youth Football League, Anthony King, told WISH-TV that “they want to use football to teach kids more than just the game. They want to teach them about life.”
