As week one of the NFL season wraps up with Monday night doubleheader games, let's take a minute to see how former U.S. National team players are during Week 1 in the NFL.
Malcom Brown, New England Patriots
Brown, a defensive tackle who played on the 2012 U.S. National Team, registered six tackles in the Patriots’ Thursday night loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
He also played in 16 regular-season games for the Patriots’ Super Bowl champion team last season.
Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers
In 2011, Montgomery helped lead the U.S. National Team to a win in the International Bowl.
Sunday, he helped the Green Bay Packers to a 17-9 win over the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field.
Montgomery has a career high of 23 touches and helped the Packers get on the board in the third quarter with a touchdown after a fumble recovery. Montgomery also had 19 carries and a total of 54 yards.
Gurley played for the U.S. National team in 2012. Gurley then went on to play at the University of Georgia before he decided to forgo his senior year and enter the 2015 draft.
Gurley was selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the then St. Louis Rams.
Entering his third season the Rams, now in Los Angeles, the running continues to be a playmaker for the team.
Gurley totaled 96 all-purpose yards (40 yards rushing and 56 yards receiving). Gurley had 19 carries, one of which resulted in a touchdown, in the Rams’ 46-9 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Tyrann Mathieu, Arizona Cardinals
Tyrann Mathieu was a member of the 2010 U.S. National Team, which won that year’s International Bowl.
Mathieu is entering his third year with the Arizona Cardinals.
During Sunday's 35-23 loss to the Detroit Lions, Mathieu had three combined tackles, two total tackles, and one assisted tackle.
Corey Coleman, Cleveland Browns
Coleman played on the 2012 U.S. National Team and was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
The Browns fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, 21-18.
Coleman had five receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown for the Browns.
Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Miami Dolphins were scheduled to have their home opener against Winston’s Buccaneers on Sunday, but due to Hurricane Irma, the game has been rescheduled for Week 11.
Winston, a 2012 National Team alum, was the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
