Kentucky, Oklahoma highlight No. 1 vs. No. 2 high school football matchups this weekend

As high school football resumes this weekend, the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked teams are facing off in several states.

In Kentucky, the state’s top two powerhouses are facing off Friday night at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

No. 1 Trinity (Louisville), will match up against No. 2 St. Xavier (Louisville). Trinity is also ranked No.16 nationally, according to MaxPreps.

Both teams are stacked with key players.

Trinity has Rondale Moore, a four-star wide receiver recruit who has committed to the University of Texas and junior running back Luke McGuire, who MaxPreps ranks the No. 1 running back in the state.  

Dual-threat quarterback Jack Albers, leads St. Xavier. Albers has received interest from Miami of Ohio and Princeton. Anthony Moretti, junior running back, had 26 carries for 181 yards and three touchdowns last Friday night in St. Xavier's 35-21 victory against Pleasure Ridge.

Trinity is currently 6-0 and St. Xavier is 5-0.

Another No. 1-vs.-No. 2 matchup will take place Friday night in Oklahoma.

No.1 Union Redskins from Tulsa (5-0) and No. 2 Owasso Rams (5-0) will battle it out for the number one spot in the Sooner State.

Both the Redskins and the Rams have a key playmaker. The Rams’ safety, Joshua Proctor, a four-star recruit has committed to Ohio State. C.J, Moore, the Redskins’ four-star wide receiver, has committed to Oklahoma State.

In Utah, it's a rematch of last year's 5A state championship. No. 4 Lone Peak (Highland) is looking to beat No. 1 Bingham (South Jordan) after falling to them 17-0 in last year’s state championship, both teams have since been moved up to Class 6A. Bingham has won three state championships in the last four years.

The Bingham Miners have started their season strong, going 6-0 winning by an average margin of 31 points. However, the Lone Peak Knights, having been on a winning streak averaging 44 points per game, after losing their second game 44-30 to the Dixie Flyers (St. George).
