From big running back performances to a kicker's tackle saving a game to a defensive player's dominance for a nationally ranked team, there were plenty of highlights in high school football to go around this weekend.

Here's a summary of those highlights on this week's edition of #FridayNightRewind, presented by Tackle Tube USA.

Penn State football fans got a glimpse of the talent that will arrive in State College next year, if they weren’t already aware.

Ricky Slade, a senior running back at C.D. Hylton (Woodbridge, Virginia) tied his own single-game school record of eight touchdowns Friday in a 64-35 win over Charles J. Colgan (Manassas, Virginia). Slade ran for five TDs, caught a touchdown pass and returned two kickoffs for scores. He also scored eight touchdowns in a game as a freshman against Patriot (Nokesville, Virginia).

Not to be outdone, Mount Union (Pennsylvania) running back Daunte Martin rushed for seven touchdowns and 328 yards in the first quarter of his team’s 56-20 win over Everett (Pennsylvania).

Finally, the MaxPreps No. 1 recruit, Justin Fields, a Harrison (Georgia) quarterback who’s committed to Georgia, showed why on this play.

Lima Senior “Mericle”

St. Francis de Sales (Ohio) came oh-so-close to pulling off an incredible comeback win against Lima Senior (Ohio) with a series of laterals, but Lima’s kicker, Cole Mericle, saved the day.

You could have watched this game live, but in case you missed it, MaxPreps No. 23 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) defeated Deerfield Beach (Florida), 14-0, behind linebacker Nik Bonitto’s strong play. Bonitto returned an interception for a touchdown and collected two sacks, one of which resulted in a lost fumble.

He's currently uncommitted to a college football team, but that could change soon.

Plays of the night

Watch Mykel Tubbs of Holy Innocents (Georgia) haul in this one-handed catch:

Here's Mandarin (Jacksonville, Florida) quarterback Kyle Smith, showing what can happen when you let him escape the pocket.

A Monticello (Arkansas) junior high team pulled off this bounced-lateral touchdown pass it calls the “Cap’n Crunch” to make the highlight reel.
