Sports aren't always about greatness and glory. Sometimes they're about perseverance during the toughest of circumstances.

Mac Engel of the Star-Telegram tells the story of Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School in Fort Worth, whose football team enters tonight's contest with Lake Worth on a 74-game losing streak. The Texas record is 80 games, set by Houston Davis from 1985-93. The national mark is believed to be 82 games, by Glascock County in Gibson, Georgia, from 1990-99.

The program's last victory came Sept. 18, 2010, when this year's seniors were in the fifth grade. Few people are in the stands, yet every Friday night, the Eagles go out and give their all to snap the streak.

First-year coach Oscar Castillo took the job knowing it was the hardest gig in Texas, but has a long-term plan. He changed the uniforms, brought in a strength coach and moved practice to the morning, since most players have after-school jobs.

“This is not the first 0-10 job I’ve taken,” Castillo said. “You have to find little wins. I love the Cinderella story, but I was prepared for 0-10."

Here's hoping the Eagles get that victory they've been waiting for soon.

Big win means unique trim for coach

University of Arizona co-offensive coordinator Rod Smith told the Wildcats if they beat UCLA, he'd let them give him the haircut of their choice. Smith kept his word when the team notched a big 47-30 triumph over the Bruins on Oct. 14.

Wednesday, the Wildcats put Smith in the barber's chair.

Senior scores inspiring TD in Oklahoma

A four-year member of the Comanche High School football team, Jordyn Campbell scored a memorable touchdown on senior night against John Marshall.

Campbell, who was named homecoming king earlier this season, has cerebral palsy, but friend and teammate Jacob Davis wanted to make one of Campbell's dreams come true. With Davis' help, both teams agreed to let Campbell have his moment on the gridiron.

“He's a big part of the team,” Davis said. “He's big moral help. He's got a strong mind. He's out there every day of practice."

Once in a coma, Indiana player relishes role

Center Grove football player Patrick Brickley

Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star tells the story of Center Grove High School senior Patrick Brickley, who in 2014 was in a weeklong coma from a hemiplegic migraine, which affects .001 percent of the population. Brickley gives his all as a scout team player for one of Indiana's top programs.

Brickley, whose coma caused a cognitive disability that impacted his reading ability (after he learned how to read again), never shies from a challenge.

“I’ll call for a lineman, and here comes Patrick,” says Trojans coach Eric Moore. “I’m going, ‘No, Patrick, I don’t need a 138-pounder. I need a lineman. Get back there.’ He’s not very big, but he has a heart the size of a refrigerator.”

Players celebrate eye-popping remodel

The Eastern Kentucky football team got a look at their new locker room this week. Needless to say, they liked what they saw.

With those upgrades, you can understand the excitement.
