The Los Angeles Chargers hosted an NFL Flag regional tournament with nearly 500 players, and on Sunday, selected one lucky 13-14-year-old squad to represent them at the National Championships in Orlando, Florida, during Pro Bowl week in January.

“An amazing event like this one will bring families together, build confidence and provide a terrific outlet for our kid athletes,” said NFL Flag L.A. Commissioner Tony Son. “For the league, it just shows we can provide a platform to help bridge life-changing events for all of our players.”

The team was chosen based on its sportsmanship and performance. The Chargers will cover airfare expenses to assist the players and coaches, while USA Football, which runs NFL Flag at the national level, will provide lodging and transportation for all competing teams, one each from the 32 NFL markets.

Sportsmanship first for Penn State coach

While Penn State suffered a disappointing 27-24 loss at Michigan State on Saturday, which included a 3 1/2-hour weather delay, Nittany Lions coach James Franklin used it as a teaching moment for players and coaches everywhere.

At the game's conclusion, Franklin saw one of his players head toward the locker room without shaking hands, and this was his incredible reaction:

Win or lose, the great coaches never stop coaching.

Here's what Franklin had to say about it.

Big night for small player in Tennessee

If a 50-6 playoff victory for Fulton (Knoxville, Tennessee) over Lenoir City wasn't highlight enough for the host Falcons and their home crowd, a play by sophomore running back Indae Walton certainly was.

Mitch Stephens of MaxPreps reports Walton - listed at 4 feet, 9 inches tall and 108 pounds - ran for his first varsity touchdown in the victory. This video from WATE-TV shows the score and his team's celebration:

Walton is far from a gimmick. In limited duty for the 9-2 Falcons, he has six carries for 50 yards, an 8.3-yard average. His team will try to continue its season this week against Knoxville Catholic (8-3).

Team lends paramedics a hand

There was a rare occurrence in Ohio, as Fort Frye hosted Northmor in state tournament action. Cam Smith of USA Today High School Sports says that after Northmor quarterback Meechie Johnson was injured and appeared to need an ambulance, he left the field under his own power. By then, the ambulance was on the field and sank into the damp grass.

That's when the Northmor players stepped in.

Fort Frye (10-1) won the game 6-0, and will face Nelsonville-York (11-0) this week.

Team managers compete for unique trophy

When the Wisconsin and Iowa football teams meet this Saturday in Madison, the 9-0 Badgers and 6-3 Hawkeyes will play for the Heartland Trophy. Meanwhile, the student managers for both programs will compete in a flag football game for a prize unlike any other, and the game is no laughing matter.
