WBRZ 2 reports LSU on Thursday unveiled Tiger Stadium's new POW-MIA Chair of Honor, to commemorate U.S. military prisoners of war and those still missing in action.

The Tiger Athletic Foundation and LSU Corps of Cadets sponsored the seat and accompanying plaque, located adjacent to the area where the team runs onto the field. The chair will remain blocked off and vacant, and two cadets will stand guard before each game, starting with Saturday's contest against Arkansas.

"This is such a meaningful gesture for me and the over 322,000 veterans that live among us in Louisiana," Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Col. Joey Strickland said.

Amazing comeback in Minnesota

Tom Ley of Deadspin reports Maple Grove High School notched an incredible 29-27 win over St. Michael-Albertville in the Class 6A state quarterfinals.

The Crimson trailed 27-10 with just over a minute remaining, before Curtis Haugen connected with Joe Raymon on a touchdown pass to make it an 11-point game with 59 seconds left.

Maple Grove followed with a recovered onside kick, and on the next play, Haugen found Raymon for another score to make it 27-22. After another recovered onside kick off the foot of Andy Peterson, the Crimson took five plays to reach the 1-yard line, and Evan Hull ran it in with four seconds on the clock for the victory.

Eagles' Long coaches up the opposition

While some players disparage the efforts of their opponents, that's not Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long. On a day when the Eagles held the Denver Broncos to just 226 yards of offense in a lopsided 51-23 victory, Long took time to encourage Denver right tackle Menelik Watson.

Unfortunately, it was the last game of the season for Watson, who was placed on injured reserve on Thursday with a torn tendon in his foot.

Many high school athletes juggle multiple activities and interests, but few do the combo enjoyed by First Academy (Leesburg, Florida) junior Kanyon Walker.

Chris Hays of the Orlando Sentinel says the 17-year-old is an elite equestrian rider with Olympic aspirations, who gets up at 5:30 a.m. to work with Durango, a thoroughbred.

Walker was the Eagles' leader in all-purpose yards and tackles this season.

“Every once in a while they do get in the way of each other,” Walker said of juggling two sports. “But for the most part, they do complement each other, in a way. The physical side of football benefits me in my riding … the finesse, the balance, the core strength. It all goes hand-in-hand, so it works out well.”

UCF celebrates birth of coach's son

Shannon Green and Iliana Lemon-Romero of the Orlando Sentinel report Central Florida coach Scott Frost was afraid wife Ashley could give birth to their first child while the Golden Knights were at SMU last weekend. Boosters even had a plane ready to go, in case Frost had to leave the sideline.

That didn't happen, as No. 18 UCF (8-0) stayed unbeaten with a 31-24 triumph. Ashley did gave birth to their son (who they planned to name by today) around at 12:15 a.m. on Thursday. When Frost announced it to his players, they erupted in jubilation.
