This week's #FridayNightRewind, brought to you by Tackle Tube USA, starts with a battle of perennial California powers, as USA Today No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) dismantled Long Beach Poly 55-13 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 1 second-round playoff clash.

Dan Albano of the Orange County Register reports quarterback and USC commit JT Daniels accounted for 341 total yards and four touchdowns, while defensive back Elias Ricks had two interceptions to help power the Monarchs (12-0), who outscored the Jackrabbits 28-0 in the second half.

“We want to kill Poly,” Daniels said. “A lot of those guys are my dudes and a lot of them are great players. (Poly QB and Florida commit) Matt Corral is going to beast. But whenever we see them, I want to kill them.”

Poly highlights included this beautiful snag by wideout Jalen Hall from Corral.

In perhaps the matchup of the season so far in the state, Mater Dei will next meet USA Today No. 20 Mission Viejo (12-0), a 48-35 winner over Orange Lutheran.

East (13-1) - one of six programs in Indiana, Nebraska and Oregon part of this year's USA Football Power of Football campaign - will face Kokomo (9-4) for the 5A crown next Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Olympians fell 16-13 last year to Westfield.

“We’ve been to state before and we know how it feels to lose. We don’t like it,” defensive end Ty Henderson said. “This time we’ll be prepared to go to that big stadium with our fans, give it all we’ve got and get a win.”

Cathedral eliminated East four times from 2006-12, all by lopsided scores, so Friday's result was a long time coming for the Olympians, who have 12 double-digit victory seasons in 14 years.

“Not to toot our own horn, but we’ve won a lot of football games. This is a great, great win for our program,” East coach Bob Gaddis said. “To come on the road and play a team of this caliber, so well-coached, great tradition, it’s a big one.”

State champions crowned across the country

More teams lived their football dreams on Friday by winning the ultimate prize. Here's a look across the U.S.:

Idaho: 1ADI: Prairie 36, Genesee 28; 4A: Skyline 40, Minico 14; 5A: Highland 14, Coeur d’Alene 8

Big upset in Georgia

Cam Smith of USA Today High School Sports reports back-to-back AAAA champion Cartersville - which hadn't lost in more than two years - saw its season end with a 21-17 upset against Blessed Trinity. The defeat ended the prep career of record-setting QB and Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence.

Here's a look at the stunning game-winning TD for Blessed Trinity (10-2) that ended the season for Cartersville (11-1).

 Play of the Week candidate

While St. Mary's fell to Don Bosco 52-14 in Iowa's 8-man championship, the Hawks gave fans a play to remember.
