USA Football announces U.S. Under-17 National Team roster to compete against Japan in 2017 International Bowl
The U.S. Under-17 National Team will have some major firepower when it heads to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the 2017 International Bowl when it takes on Japan on Monday, Jan. 16.
The talented squad is highlighted by one of the nation’s top young defensive backs.
Orange (N.J.) cornerback Nyquee Hawkins, a returning National Team selection, headlines this year’s U-17 squad. Ranked a four-star recruit in the Class of 2019 by 247Sports, Hawkins has been a key contributor on Orange’s varsity squad since his freshman season.
There’s also some notable talent in the trenches, including Kansas product Cooper Beebe and Washington native Bailey Elder.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Beebe is the younger brother of former National Team alum and current Minnesota tight end Colton Beebe.
Elder, from Stadium (Tacoma, Wash.), stands 6-5 and has emerged as an offensive line recruit to watch.
Steering the ship will be head coach Gabe Infante, who has led St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia) to back-to-back state titles from 2013-14.
The U.S. National Teams manager Aaron Ingram is excited to have Infante on board.
"Gabe Infante runs a college-level program at St. Joe's Prep. Anytime you can see the results that St. Joe’s has had, it is because of outstanding coaching and leadership. We know Coach Infante will lead our U-17 National team the exact same way. He is an incredible coach, leader and an even better man,” Ingram said.
