With five Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots, it's safe to assume Bill Belichick knows his fair share about leadership.

CNBC sat down with Belichick, who dove into leadership along with a variety of topics, like choosing a career you’re passionate about, preparing for all outcomes, and why not to fear the pursuit big ideas.

As it pertains to leadership, CNBC identified five key points to Belichick’s philosophy:

  • 1. Leadership means building a team that's exhaustively prepared, but able to adjust in an instant
  • 2. Leadership means having the discipline to deploy your "dependables"
  • 3. Leadership means being the boss
  • 4. Leadership means caring about everything going on in the lives of your people
  • 5. Leadership means never resting on your laurels
