We’re finally home after a long day at the football field. What a great game. All the kids played hard, and parents cheered their hearts out.

After fueling up that hungry young body, it’s time for a shower and some down time on the couch.

Ouch. What was that? Where did that bruise come from?

Youth football players – just like all ages of athletes in different sports – play through pain, often times not even feeling those aches until long after the final whistle.

Not to worry. There’s a simple tool every mom and dad can use to get through those minor injuries and be ready for next time.

It’s called the R.I.C.E method.

  • Rest. Protect the injured area from further harm by stopping play.
  • Ice. Apply ice wrapped in a clean cloth for 20 minutes every few hours.
  • Compression. Lightly wrap the injured area with an elastic bandage or wrap.
  • Elevation. Raise the injured area to a level above your child's heart
