Coaches don’t need expensive chutes to teach their defensive linemen how to stay low, dip and rip through would-be blockers.
The Towel Drill is a simple way to get those points across and needs only two players and a ordinary hand towel.
Start with the two players down in a good stance and the defensive player shaded a bit to the outside. On the coach’s go, the defensive player stays low and shoots out, picking up a towel that rests just off the offensive player’s outside heel.
By staying low and using same foot, same shoulder technique, the defender learns how to successfully rip and lean to the target.
