Football players are getting bigger every year.
Nobody, though, compares to John Krahn.
The Riverside King High School senior stands 7 feet and weighs 440 pounds, towering above the competition in greater Los Angeles.
Heck, he towers above everyone in the sport. According to MaxPreps, Krahn is taller than every NFL and college player and is believed to be the only 7-footer on a high school roster.
Krahn is relatively new to football, not starting until high school, so he’s working hard on building his skill sets and learning the sport while improving his footwork and foot speed.
He made enough of an impression this summer at a U.S. National Team Regional Development Camp to be invited to the National Development Games in Los Angeles, playing on the defensive line and even being used as a fullback in some jumbo, short-yardage sets.
Krahn told MaxPreps he is trying to lose weight by adhering to a 3,000 calorie a day diet that consists mostly of chicken and fish.
“We had Division I coaches on site that said they’d consider offering him (a scholarship) if he lost some weight,” USA Football's Jimmy Thomas told MaxPreps. “They think he could be a force at a lighter weight.”
For now, though, Krahn is working hard to help the Wolves. By taking part in the Development Games, he also is eligible for the 2016 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas.
Rosters will be announced in November for the seventh annual International Bowl, which includes national teams from the United States and Canada as well as an International Federation of American Football World Team.
