The Sugar Land Cowboys Youth Football and Cheer program located in Sugar Land, Texas has earned Gold Level status through USA Football’s League Excellence Program for the 2022 season.

USA Football’s League Excellence Program is a way for youth football organizations to earn recognition for a commitment to raise operational standards and provide a great environment for athletes and their families.

The Sugar Land Cowboys celebrated their 50th season in 2021 and continued to provide high quality youth football for the kids in their community this past year.

“The Sugar Land Cowboys has been around for over 51 years,” said President Eric Davis, who has worked with the club for 15 years. “We are a stable organization in the community. We provide a competitive environment for our kids to play football at a high level.”

This is the program’s second consecutive year earning Gold Level status, a testament to the dedication of its coaches and league leaders like Davis and Athletic Director Joinel Vilmael.

“In our league we teach fundamental football,” said Davis. “When our kids age out of youth football and play in middle school and high school, they’re prepared.”

Davis is inspired by how former members of the Sugar Land Cowboys remain connected to the club. Athletes who leave the program, which serves young athletes ages five through 11, for high school or college always return.

All coaches for the Sugar Land Cowboys undergo background checks and USA Football’s accredited, best-in-class Youth Coach Certification Program.

“USA Football sets the foundation for all coaches,” said Davis. “For example, all our coaches must be certified every year before they can coach on the field. Our parents are glad to hear about the screening process a coach must go through before they can become a coach within our organization.”
