U.S. National Team Spotlight: Corey Webb

By Stella Watson | Posted 8/24/2023

Corey Webb has been playing flag football since he was 15 years old and has an extensive background in flag football. He travels regularly to play and trains and teaches younger athletes that have a passion for football. Webb was also a member of USA Football’s 2018, 2020 and 2023 U.S. Men’s Flag National Teams.

Webb and the National Team recently won gold medals in front of an international crowd of approximately 1,000 spectators at the conclusion of the 2023 IFAF Americas Continental Flag Football Championship by defeating Mexico’s national team 40-36.

Webb was kind enough to speak with USA Football about his experiences in flag football and with the U.S. National Team.

How did you get into football?

"I have been playing football since I was three-four years old. I grew up watching my brothers play football and being a part of an athletic family, they just passed the torch to me. Having highlight videos viewed by USA Football opened the doors for me to join the U.S. Flag National Team. Additionally, while playing games I did what I do best. I was a team player, and that led me to being on the team playing cornerback and receiver."

Tell me more about your time on the 2018 U.S. Men’s Flag National Team.

"It was amazing, and it was my first opportunity to represent our country. Having everyone believe in you to do well and accomplish one of your biggest goals in life is surreal. It was different teammates and a different atmosphere. I love adapting to a new place, area and everything that comes with it. I loved it. I was shocked more than anything, but I’m glad they chose me to represent them and do what I do best. I love playing football with my teammates. It is still one of the biggest flag scenes that I have been to in my life."

What is one of your favorite memories while playing?

"Some of my favorite memories are of playing with my close friend Frankie Solomon. He always puts me in the right position, and playing beside him and celebrating with him was one of my biggest accomplishments."

What is some advice you would give to other athletes that want to pursue football as a career or professional sport?

"I teach and train kids, so I tell them you never know who is watching, so always play your best. You never know who is looking up to you and someday wants to be where you are. I tell them to do what you can do, and don’t try to do too much. Just do your job and be smart. Even when you’re not playing football, you never know who is watching, so do your best."

How are you currently involved in football?

"I teach and train kids, and I also put on tournaments three or four times a year. I am always involved in some way. I also travel a lot to play flag football."

How has USA Football Helped you achieve your dreams?

"USA Football has opened a lot of doors. I have traveled to around 40 states and gotten to play in Panama with the U.S. Flag National Team. Getting to meet people and play with some of my best friends would not have been possible without the opportunities USA Football has afforded me."

Webb’s love for football is evident. He has worked hard to get himself to this level and is giving back to future generations of players.
