The Washingtonville Youth Football and Cheerleading League (WYFCL) located in Washingtonville, N.Y. has earned Gold Level status through USA Football’s League Excellence Program for the 2023 season.     

USA Football’s League Excellence Program is a way for youth football organizations to earn recognition for their commitment to raising operational standards and providing great environments for athletes and their families.    

WYFCL offers tackle football, boys’ flag football and girls’ flag football, along with winter and summer football clinics for local athletes. The tackle program is divided into four age divisions, supporting athletes from five up to 13 years old.  

“WYFCL provides children the opportunity to learn how to be a part of a team and play the game of football,” said Jamie Ferrazzano, who took over the role of league President in 2021. “The foundation and inspiration for our program are the kids. We are here for the kids. Our coaches understand it is a privilege to work with USA Football.” 

WYFCL searches for opportunities for its young athletes to make lifelong memories. One of Ferrazzano’s favorite memories is seeing the program’s athletes run out of the tunnel and go through a scrimmage before a New York Jets home game at MetLife Stadium.  

Ferrazzano and WYFCL also know the importance of keeping athletes safe and teaching them how to play America’s favorite sport. The League Excellence Program incentivizes youth programs to embody these values, be the best versions of themselves and pursue excellence for their athletes, coaches, parents and communities.  

“The commitment it [the League Excellence Program] requires for a league to provide children with a safe and constructive environment to learn the game of football [is one of its best aspects],” Ferrazzano explained. “The League Excellence Program supports a youth program to grow and nurture the game of football for the kids.” 

WYFCL has also benefited from USA Football’s expansive grants program. The league previously received a grant to help with the costs of purchasing and maintaining certified equipment.  

“WYFCL is very thankful for the support we have received from USA Football,” said Ferrazzano. “We appreciate everything that they provide so children can safely play football.”
