Scripps Ranch Pop Warner located in San Diego, Calif. has earned Gold Level status through USA Football’s League Excellence Program for the 2024 season.

USA Football’s League Excellence Program is a way for youth football organizations to earn recognition for their commitment to raising operational standards and providing great environments for athletes and their families.

Scripps Ranch Pop Warner offers flag football for athletes ages 5-7, tackle football for ages 7-14 and competition cheer for ages 5-14. The tackle program is eligible to field teams at the 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U and 13U levels. Registration for the fall season begins in April to prepare for practices, which begin in the middle of July.

The program and its president, Gary Harrison, know that football offers more than just an opportunity for kids to expend some energy. It’s about setting athletes up for future success, on and off the field.

“At Scripps Ranch, youth football can bring valuable life lessons. We inspire kids by building confidence, resilience and teamwork,” said Harrison. “Our program teaches discipline, fosters lifelong friendships and instills values that extend beyond the field. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we create a positive environment where young athletes grow into strong, capable individuals. Seeing our players thrive is why we coach, mentor and lead with passion every season.”

In his five years with the program, Harrison has seen several inspirational moments that speak to the power of sports. One moment that uplifted a new football player who struggled through his first season stood out.

“He was hesitant, unsure of himself, and considered quitting. But with the support of his coaches and teammates, he kept showing up,” Harrison recalled. “By the end of the season, he made a key tackle that helped the team get the victory. The pure joy on his face and the way his teammates rallied around him were unforgettable. It was a powerful reminder that growth, resilience and belief in oneself are the true victories in youth sports.”

Harrison and Scripps Ranch Pop Warner have benefited from several USA Football programs. The organization previously received a grant that helped pay for equipment, ensuring the coaches could teach safe and proper form tackling. Harrison highlighted the importance of player safety and how the League Excellence Program emphasizes proper coaching.

“The program ensures leagues prioritize proper tackling techniques, concussion awareness and age-appropriate training,” said Harrison. “This helps keep kids safe while learning the game the right way.”

Congratulations to Scripps Ranch Pop Warner on another successful year and for earning Gold Level status.
