Most unique high school mascots: What you said

We thought we had seen some of the most unique high school mascots in all 50 states, from The Honkers in California at Yuba City High School to New York’s Stuyvesant High School (New York City) Peglegs, but those just scratched the surface for unique high school mascots.

Check out these unique high school mascots that proud fans have submitted from all over the country since we posted our original blog Monday.

On Facebook, one fan in Texas believes their school tops the Robstown High School Cotton Pickers. New Braunfels High School is known as the Fighting Unicorns.

In Missouri, the David H. Hickman High School Kewpies have some competition. The West Plains Zizzers are one of the most unique mascots in the state.

What is a Zizzer, you ask?

ZIZZER (ZIZ'ZER) n. 1. an expert in any activity - adj. (colloq) FIRST RATE; 2. a person of the highest caliber, ability or reputation. 3. one who is victorious; and West Plains has you covered with how they became the Zizzers, check it out.

In Georgia, the mascot competition is tough, the Cairo High School are known as the Syrupmakers, and we learned about the Sol C. Johnson High School are the Atom Smashers through our Facebook submissions.

In Ann Arbor, Michigan Huron High School's mascot is the River Rats, and proud of it! MLive.com did a feature on the high school mascot, and found out how they became the River Rats.

In Florida, these schools get their mascots from marine life. Key West High School is known as The Conchs, because of the famous mollusk that's common in the Florida Keys and Tarpon Spring High are know as the Spongers because Tarpon Spring's local waters are abundant with natural sponges.

Arizona Apache Junction High School is known as the Prospectors, and they have one of the most authentic mascots.

The East Liverpool High School mascot is the Fighting Kiln.

The Fighting Kilns’ mascot came about because East Liverpool is known for manufacturing pottery.
