Georgia’s D’Andre Swift earns U.S. National Team alum honors

It was an exciting weekend in college football. Nine teams became 2017 conference champions, the College Football Playoffs teams were selected, and 80 teams learned which bowl they would play in.

Let’s see how a few of our U.S. National Team alums performed during their conference championships, and which player earned College Player of the Week honors.

D’Andre Swift, Georgia

Georgia topped Auburn 28-7 on Saturday to clinch the SEC championship.

Swift, the 2017 U-19 MVP of the U.S. National Team in the North American Championship and a true freshman, Swift earned this week’s college player of the week. Swift helped lead the Bulldogs to victory with a 64-yard touchdown.

Swift finished the game with seven catches for 88 yards and one touchdown.

Mecole Hardman, Georgia

Hardman was a member of the 2016 U-19 National Team.

Alongside Swift, Hardman had four catches for 67 yards during the SEC championship.

The No. 3 Bulldogs earned one of four spots in the College Football Playoffs and will face No. 2 Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Shaquem Griffin, University of Central Florida

UCF defeated Memphis 62-55 Saturday to clinch the AAC Championship.

2013 U-19 National Team alum, Griffin, helped lead the Knights to a conference championship win with six tackles (four solo tackles), two sacks, and one pass deflection.

No. 12 UCF will play No. 7 Auburn in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

Wisconsin had a hard-fought battle Saturday against Ohio State for the Big Ten championship game but lost to the Buckeyes, 27-21. It was the Badgers’ first loss of the season.

Taylor, a 2017 U-17 National Team alum, and Badgers breakout freshman had 15 rushes for 41 yards, along with three catches for 30 yards.

No. 6 Wisconsin (12-1) will face off against No. 10 Miami in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.

Jalen Reagor, TCU

Reagor was a member of the 2017 U-19 National Team.

During Saturday’s Big 12 championship game, TCU fell to No. 2 Oklahoma 41-17.

Reagor had two catches for 30 yards, and one touchdown for the Horned Frogs.

No. 15 TCU  will play in the Alamo Bowl against No. 13 Stanford on Dec. 28.

Harrison Phillips, Stanford

Stanford fell to eighth-ranked USC, 31-28 on Friday in the PAC 12 conference championship game.

Phillips is a 2014 U.S. U-19 National Team alum, and during Friday night’s game, Phillips had 13 tackles (four solo) tackles and 0.5 sack.

Stanford will match up against TCU in the Alamo Bowl.
