USA Football’s 2019 Protection Tour continued last Friday night in Santa Clara, Calif., home of the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium and SAP Performance Facility. Bay Area youth players and their families joined USA Football, Riddell and the 49ers for an evening of fun, fitness and football.

Representatives from Riddell, a recognized leader in protective equipment, were on hand to fit youth players’ helmets for the upcoming season and educate parents on proper equipment fit and protection.

Young athletes were also led through components of USA Football’s nationally endorsed Heads Up Football program by USA Football Master Trainer Jason French and the 49ers’ mascot, Sourdough Sam, who demonstrated everything from fundamental tackling technique to footwork and stance.

The final on-field session was a rotation of non-contact drills taught by a group of the Bay Area’s top middle school and high school coaches, as well as former 49ers defensive end Dennis Brown. There was also entertainment throughout the night for the whole family, including a live DJ, giveaways, photo booth and a 40-yard dash challenge.

Ryan Dillard, the 49ers’ PREP Coordinator, stated how great it was for the team and USA Football to be able to partner to bring this opportunity to the community. “The fact that these kids can have the unique experience of playing on an NFL field is so exciting and can be monumental in their lives. Seeing the smiles on the kid’s faces means everything to us.”

The Protection Tour will remain in the Golden State with the next stop being slated for Saturday, July 27 in conjunction with the Los Angeles Chargers. The free event will take place at Costa Mesa High School from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. PST.  Register here. [Note: To register, participants need a USA Football account, which is created at no cost at this link.]
