12 Podcasts of Christmas: Andrew Coverdale (12/28/17)

By Keith Grabowski | Posted 12/28/2017

To close out 2017, USA Football is re-publishing the 12 best podcasts of the year. This is the ninth podcast of the series. Look for the remaining three podcasts in the coming days.

As a young offensive coordinator, I dove into Andrew Coverdale’s books on the quick game and the bunch formations. When I saw he had five sessions at a Glazier Clinic in Cincinnati (around 1999), I drove down to sit in on every session and filled up notebooks in the process. I loved the way he thought about the game.

In 2005, while speaking at Ball State University, I saw Andrew, the Louisville (Kentucky) Trinity High School offensive coordinator, in the audience taking notes during my presentation on the stretch play. Afterward, he and I talked and exchanged contact info. Since then, he has become a friend in coaching and we share ideas every year.  I was excited to be able to record this conversation and share it with the football coaching community.

In this podcast, we talk about coaching philosophy as well as getting into some of the "why" behind his thinking on offense.  There is plenty in this podcast for every coach to learn from.
